More Flowers

Along with a Scarf obsession I also have been on a flower kick.
We had the annual Winegar Girls Craft Day over the Thanksgiving weekend.
Rachel and I made these super easy satin flowers that you see everywhere and have probably made yourselves.

I started out by cutting out circles on my cricut ranging in sizes from 5" down to 1"

I traced them onto the satin which I bought at Hobby Lobby for .75 for 1/4 of a yard. I cut out my circles and singed the edges with a candle. Glued them together and glued a simple bead in the middle.

I then glued a pin clasp on one and hair clips on the others!

I Love Sarves

So I have a total obsession with scarves I own a lot and am getting more for Christmas. I saw this cute crocheted scarf on a website and decided I wanted to make one of my own this is a thinner scarf it is only about 3" wide, which I LOVE! The problem is I do not crochet well and only know  a few stitches so this is  about as good as it gets. :)

If anyone out there wants the pattern that I used I will make it up in crochet lingo and post it but I cannot guarantee it will be correct.

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving and found lots of great shopping deals this morning!

No Sew Flowers

So I was called to teach primary in my ward, and I needed a primary bag. Problem is I don't have money to go buy a new one and I don't have the patience right now to make one. So I started digging through my office closet and I came up with this levi bag with a pocket on front, my mother-in-law gave it to me last year and I have never used it.  So I thought great this will be perfect but it needed COLOR so I had seen a girl at the store with this really cute head band and I thought why not make that bigger and a pin and stick it on this bag!

This was super simple, I found round object that in the size that I wanted and traced them onto fabric, six circles each then cut them out. I cut out a small piece of felt and  got out the glue gun. All I did was fold each circle in to 1/4 and stuck a dot of glue in the middle to hold them together, and then i just arranged them on the felt and glued down in layers, in this picture I just rolled up some scrap fabric and stuck it in the middle, and to finish off I just glued on a jewelry pin I which I bought at the craft store for .75 and it came with five, the rest was free because it was all scrap fabric!

I hope everyone has a FANTASTIC Thanksgiving, I know we will!

Easy Chocolate Truffles

MMMMMM..... Yummy!
I found this recipe at work the other day and I love them!
you need:
2- 8 oz pkg of bakers chocolate
1- Pkg of cream cheese
1- Pkg of OREOS

* Crush Oreos finely and mix 3 cups of them with the cream cheese until dark brown and creamy (you can see above I used Christmas Red Oreos:) I think that mint Oreos would be super tasty).
Roll into bite size balls, and dip into melted chocolate, the recipe called for the full two pkgs but you really only need about 1 1/2, (it is always easier to melt more). Sprinkle remaining Oreos on top and let chill in refrigerator for one hour and enjoy!

Fabric Head Band with flower

I saw these head bands at a local farmers market and decided I could
I could make them my self instead of spending the money on them and it was
super easy!

Step #1 fold fabric in half, for this I used and 18" long piece
you want it to be 3" in the middle and taper to 1" at the base.
Step #2 Sew a stay stitch at 1/4" I use a #4 stitch on my sewing machine
which is the longest I can make my stitch.
Step #3 Do the same with a smaller piece of contrasting fabric.
Truthfully I just measured the smaller piece until I liked the look of it.
Pin on and repeat step #2.
Step #4 I cut down fabric and sewed along just so it would stay together.
I then just rolled it up and put a dot of hot glue every few inches.
Step #5 I attached ribbon to the bottom to come underneath my hair and tie,
again I just measured until I had the size I wanted. I then just glued on my flower.
This project cost me nothing because it all came out of scrap fabric!

Fall Light Up Pumpkin!

Quick post, I have been wanting a light up fall pumpkin since last year! I found one at Hobby Lobby for 35$ back in October, but was I willing to fork out that kind of cash, I think not. So I waited patiently, and a few weeks before Halloween all the fall grapevine pumpkins were on sale for 50% off I found the perfect one size and all and only paid 10$. I was also lucky enough to wander over the the Christmas lights section where I bought a box of 20 twinkle lights for 1.20$. The goal is to tape over the lights and spray paint the cord brown but that wont be happening until next year. So for now I just stuffed my small strand of lights into the pumpkin plugged it in a walla I now have a light up pumpkin for $11.20, Huge Savings! It is not actually sitting on this chair in my house it is on a shelf, but it was very rainy when I took this and I could not get any decent lighting for my cheapo camera.
We don't put up Christmas until the day after Thanksgiving at our house, so we get a bonus few weeks of fall before I take this down!

Missing in Action and End Tables

Hello all out there in the blogging world. We the Winegar Girls would like to appoligize for the lack of love given to this blog. Rachel Had a Healthy Baby girl on August the 25th. This is really no excuse for me to have been missing but it seems that working 2 jobs and going to school leaves little time for our lonley little blog. Rachel on the other hand now has no internet and a new baby so she Has and excuse. Ok on to bigger and better things I have taken up a love for the thrift store and found this little end table at the local Deseret Industries, I paid 15$ yes you heard right 15$. I brought it home and my husbands response was do we really need another endtable, as he is staring at the pile of crap, that I guess only I could see the beauty in. So I got to work this is a first for me I have never refinished anything.

1st It required a lot of sanding as you can see it had a very poor paint job done on it before the knots were coming through the paint in some areas and in others it was so thick I thought the sanding process would never end.

2nd I moved onto wood filler, I purchased this small tube for next to nothing at the hardware store and got to work, my all knowing father explained to me that the surface needed to be completly smooth or you would see every mistake on the table and they would stick out like a sore thumb. so I filled in all of the knicks and dings in the table. Let the filler dry completely and sanded it smooth.

Last but not least I painted it. The picture makes it look black but it is actually a deep chocolate brown. The best part was the paint was FREE! Thats right folks I raided my parents garage and guess who had and entire quart of paint sitting there just waiting to poor some love onto some old furniture thats right Ma and PA Winegar did (not sure they appreciate being called that on the blog :)). After painting two coats and letting it completely dry this step is important dont get impatient you dont want to ruin your hard work. I went to Hobby Lobby and purchased some drawer pulls that I love for 3 dollars a peice bringing my new table total for 21$.

The table is now sitting next to our bed and has inspired a total bedroom redo, so be prepared for things to come. The table also holds a hiddious lamp which I hate and will be getting rid of during the redo! Keep watching I am currently working on another table that is taking a little more tlc and motivation to finish!
